Drafting a Newsletter

As you approach a newsletter design, it’s important to have a specific theme in mind. This will help inform your design elements and prioritize your layout. For me, this was especially helpful in creating a newsletter “foundation,” especially because I have never designed one before.

InDesign can be a little complicated, as I’ve learned in previous units. There are so many tools and layouts at your disposal, and it can be easy to overlook them if you don’t have a clear vision in mind.

Grids, especially, can help to inspire your layout. This format can allow for easier readability and separates segments between aspects like text, images, quotes, and graphics. These are all very important elements of a newsletter and contribute to readers’ enjoyment of the content.

  1. I think this is a great sketch! I love the title of your newsletter and how creative it is. In addition to this, I love how you included places to highlight quotes, because I feel like that adds a bit of dimension to the newsletter itself. My only piece of advice would be to add more images! Based on the sketch, your newsletter seems a bit text-heavy, so I would recommend adding more photos and design elements to make it a bit more interesting. Overall, great work though!
